A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MESSAGES

Since June 24, 1981, the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus Christ, has been appearing in apparition at Medjugorje and giving verbal messages to six Croatian teenagers. The messages, while first directed to the visionaries and then the people of the village, are meant for all of the people of the world.

 

They are not meant just for Catholics or Christians, but for everyone.

In the first 33 months of the apparitions, the messages served as “teaching” lessons and laying out the general purpose of the Blessed Virgin’s appearance in the village. “I have come to tell you God exists and that He loves you.” wthe first message she gave the children on June 25, 1981. Later, she said she would appear to each of them and over a period of time and give them ten special future event messages (referred by most followers of Medjugorje as secrets) that would have to do with major happenings in the world that would occur after her last apparition at Medjugorje.

Presently, three of the six visionaries have received all 10 secrets and no longer have daily apparitions. However, the Blessed Virgin promised that she would appear to those visionaries who have received all ten secrets at least one time each succeeding year.

Visionary Mirjana was the first to receive the tenth secret. Her daily apparitions ended Christmas day, 1982. The Virgin told her that she would appear to her annually on March 18, beginning in 1983. However, on March 2, 1987, the Blessed Virgin Mary began speaking to Mirjana by way of inner locution. Later, the locutions became apparitions again that were at first private for the visionary and her family, and later became public. Mirjana continues to see the Blessed Virgin now on the second day of each month, an event that draws thousands each time it occurs.

Visionary Ivanka received the tenth secret on May 7, 1985; she now has her annual apparition on the anniversary day of the apparitions, June 25. Jakov was given the 10th secret on September 11, 1998 and has his annual apparition on Christmas Day, December 25.

"Dear Children, As I look at you, my heart seizes with pain. Where are you going my children? Have you sunk so deeply into sin that you do not know how to stop yourselves? You justify yourselves with sin and live according to it. Kneel down beneath the Cross and look at my Son. He conquered sin and died so that you, my children, may live. Permit me to help you not to die but to live with my Son forever. Thank you!"

Offer all your joys and sorrows to my Immaculate Heart that I may lead you all to my most beloved Son, so that you may find joy in His Heart. September 2, 2009                                                                                                                  “Dear children! Today, with a motherly heart, I call you to learn to forgive, completely and unconditionally. You suffer injustice, betrayals and persecutions, but by that you are closer to and dearer to God. My children, pray for the gift of love. Only love forgives all, as my Son forgives—follow Him. I am among you and am praying that when you come before your Father you can say: ‘Here I am Father, I followed your Son, I had love and forgave with the heart, because I believed in your judgment and trusted in you.’ Thank you.”

Little children, you are not holy enough and you do not radiate holiness to others, therefore pray, pray, pray and work on your personal conversion, so that you may be a sign of God's love to others. August 2, 2009                                                                                                                          “Dear children, I am coming, with my Motherly love, to point  out the way by which you are to set out, in order that you may be all the more like my Son; and by that, closer to and more pleasing to God. Do not refuse my love. Do not renounce salvation and eternal life for the sake of transience and frivolity of this life. I am coming to lead you and, as a mother, to caution you. Come with me.”

I need hearts ready for immeasurable love – hearts that are not burdened by vanity – hearts that are ready to love as my Son loved – that are ready to sacrifice themselves as my Son sacrificed himself. I need you. In order to come with me, forgive yourselves, forgive others and adore my Son. Adore him also for those who have not come to know him, those who do not love him. Therefore, I need you; therefore, I call you. Thank you. ”

 "Dear children! My love seeks your complete and unconditional love, which will not leave you the same as you are, instead it will change you and teach you to trust in my Son. My children, with my love I am saving you and making you true witnesses of the goodness of my Son. Therefore, my children, do not be afraid to witness love in the name of my Son. Thank you."

 "Dear children! With a Motherly Heart, today I desire to remind you of, mainly to draw your attention to, God’s immeasurable love and the patience which ensues from it. Your Father is sending me and is waiting. He is waiting for your open hearts to be ready for His works. He is waiting for your hearts to be united in Christian love and mercy in the spirit of my Son. "Dear children! Also today I call you to prayer. May prayer be for you like the seed that you will put in my heart, which I will give over to my Son Jesus for you, for the salvation of your souls. I desire, little children, for each of you to fall in love with eternal life which is your future, and for all worldly things to be a help for you to draw you closer to God the Creator. Dear children! I call you to work on your personal conversion. You are still far from meeting with God in your heart. Therefore, spend all the more time in prayer and Adoration of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, for Him to change you and to put into your hearts a living faith and a desire for eternal life. Everything is passing, little children, only God is not passing. I am with you and I encourage you with love. Thank you for having responded to my call.

Annual Apparition To Visionary Mirjana - March 18, 2008

This year several thousand pilgrims gathered to pray the Rosary at the Cenacolo Community in Medjugorje. The apparition lasted from 2:01 PM to 2:08 PM. Mirjana transmitted the following:

“I have never seen Our Lady address us in this manner. She extended her hands towards us and with her hands extended in this way, she said: Dear children, today I extend my hands towards you. Do not be afraid to accept them. They desire to give you love and peace and to help you in salvation. Therefore, my children, receive them. Fill my heart with joy and I will lead you towards holiness. The way on which I lead you is difficult and full of temptations and falls. I will be with you and my hands will hold you. Be persevering so that, at the end of the way, we can all together, in joy and love, hold the hands of my Son. Come with me; fear not. Thank you.

Concerning a third world war: "The third world war will not take place."

Concerning Purgatory: "There are many souls in Purgatory. There are also persons who have been consecrated to God - some priests, some religious. Pray for their intentions, at least the Lord's Prayer, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be seven times each, and the Creed. I recommend it to you. There is a large number of souls who have been in purgatory for a long time because no one prays for them."

Concerning Fasting: "The best fast is on bread and water. Through fasting and prayer, one can stop wars, one can suspend the laws of nature. Charity cannot replace fasting. Those who are not able to fast can sometime replace it with prayer, charity, and a confession; but everyone, except the sick, must fast."
